Description
There's a reason ALL of Perkins Street is in such terrible deteriorated condition. I've lived on Orange Street for 23 years, and remember that about 20 years ago, the City of Oakland ripped up the asphalt on Perkins Street from Grand Avenue to Orange Street — on each side of the street from the gutter to about four feet from the center yellow line. Then the City did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to repair the ripped-up asphalt. It's notable and infuriating that the street was in very good condition at the time, and that there was no sewer line or other underground work performed at the time, or at any time thereafter. The City owes this neighborhood a complete repaving of Perkins Street after doing this damage for no apparent reason. As a reminder, Perkins Street is a major neighborhood route, as people use it to get to 580 via Perkins, Orange and Pearl streets.
